Colors

Today is a special day for me as I am posting my last Altenew Educator project before the final exam. It has taken me some time to get here but it has been so fun!

I am reflecting on all that I have learned and all the new things I have tried since I started this program and I am so grateful to Virginia and lately also to Erum for their comments and encouragement in this process.

Birthday cards are my favorite kind of card to make so this is what I chose today.

I knew I wanted to use a really iconic (to me) Altenew set; Beautiful Day. I believe it is a bestseller and of course it is - it has the most gorgeous flowers and it's a color layering set but it also has an outline so you can color it yourself if you like!
All good in my book!

This is how to make this card;
  1. Stamp a frame of the main outline flower and leaf cluster on to water color card stock using Versamark black onyx (or other water proof ink) masking as you go. You may notice that the images are symmetric - I used my MISTI and stamped the two opposing corners the same way.
  2. Color the images using various Distress Oxides, water and a paint brush.
  3. Once the image is thoroughly dry, cut out the blank, middle part using a craft knife.
  4. On a pink card base, lightly outline the middle space in pencil to determine where to stamp the sentiment.
  5. Stamp sentiment from Birds of a Feather and bird from Wild Hibiscus in black ink inside the frame.
  6. Sponge a little pink ink on the bird's tummy.
  7. Mount the frame using foam tape.
  8. Done!

Then I also made a bonus card because I wanted to use the smaller images in the Beautiful Day set so I made another frame that I colored very "un-carefully" with Polychromos pencils.

To complete this card I mixed up sentiments (using my spreadsheet from this post) from Charmed and Halftone Hello.

All this coloring was inspired by an Altenew Academy class aptly named For the Love of Color where Julia Altermann demonstrates several coloring techniques.

Here are my two cards using two different coloring techniques.

I am entering this last card into the June 2019 Inspiration Challenge on the Altenew blog, hosted this month by my lovely mentor Virginia Lu!

I choose my pencil colors using Virginia's fun photo as inspiration. I hope you like it Virginia!

Hope you all have a great week,
hugs
Helen
