Release day at Altenew is always exciting and even more so when the release is Simply Scientific! You probably came from the supremely talented Emily Midgett's blog, if not please start the hop at the Altenew Blog were Terri is starting us off today.
The different scientific vessels in the
Chemistry Vases set are so very fun and that sentiment is just unique! Here I used them to make a "mad scientist" birthday card. All the elements were stamped and heat embossed on vellum and then colored from the back using watercolor markers. Then I glued them to an
Altenew Adhesive sheet, fussy cut them out and stuck them down to my background - the Concentric Circles 3D Embossing Folder. For the colored bubbles, using the same watercolor markers, I stamped the three dots from the
Doodle Bouquet set.
This card features 4 test tubes stamped side by side and filled with flowers from the
Simple Flowers Add On set, the stems and sentiment are from the original
Simple Flowers set. This would have been a one-layer card but I decided to add a couple of layers of card stock to create some dimension.
My initial plan was to make a shaped card so I added a couple of layers of card stock to make the card sturdy, see above. Then I made a mistake and cut off the backside 😮 so in the end I just decided to add the flower panel to a standard A2 card. I just love this card and plan on making many more of this design.
This colorful card was made with the
Rose Buds Layering Stencils set. Seeing these triggered an old memory of a Laura Ashley dress that I wore to shreds many years ago and I really wanted to try and recreate the rose pattern of that dress.
The dress in question had only pink and yellow roses but I could not resist but to add a row of blue roses - artistic freedom, right?! I cut out the
Mega Hello Die from gold mirror card stock and added a little Bonjour from the
Label Love French set. This card is for my sweet neighbor in France so a French sentiment was necessary! Did you know that Altenew makes the
Label Love set in several languages? Very useful.
This stencil, "Berried Cotoneaster" is my favorite item in this release, I love it so much, sigh... I ordered the Berried Cotoneaster 3D Embossing folder from the October release but received them too late for my photographs. Even so, using just the stencil makes a gorgeous card! As you can see I stencil straight on to a card base and carry the stenciling through to the back of the card, then I add a sentiment in Obsidian Black Ink. This goes through the mail without any trouble.
This version in teal and blue on a grey stem is probably my favorite card today, which one is yours? Let me know in the comments below!
And then I made one with yellow berries on a red stem, also quite effective. I have never been a super fan of stencils but this has totally made me rethink - I will be doing more of this!
