Altenew Educators "Favorite Old/New Altenew Stamp" Blog Hop and Linky Party + Giveaway

Today I have more of something that I call Back-to-Back cards. These cards have a front but the design continues on the back - so when the recipient stands the card on their desk or table, there is no blank backside.

Welcome to the Altenew Educator's quarterly blog hop, you should have come from Karen's blog, if you did not, feel free to start at the beginning of the hop at the Altenew Card Blog.

The theme of this blog hop is Favorite Old/New Stamp from Altenew. My first card was made using the very first stamp set I bought from Altenew back in 2015, Baby Zoo. I also purchased the Invisible Alpha (unfortunately no longer in stock) and three ink pads. Then I was hooked on Altenew!

Baby Zoo is a firm favorite and I use it over and over, I will link to several other projects using Baby Zoo - How about a background and Another sign and Sending our love and Letterpress with Altenew.

I wish Altenew would come out with an add-on set with other animals in the same silhouette style - how about a fox, a moose, a whale, a dolphin, a chicken or a horse - so many to choose from ;)

I use a standard American A2 card base which is 11x5.5 inches and is un-scored - this is important if you want to create a back-to-back card - stamp first, then score!

I stamped the three animals in a row, walking all along the card, from left to right I used these Altenew Crisp Inks; Hydrangea, Fresh Lemon, Heart Beat, Green Field, Persian Blue, Orange Cream. Letting the colors overlap creates beautiful new shades which is so cool.

Then I repeatedly stamped Congratulations in Charcoal Suit, I used my MISTI and started in the middle, then I moved the card stock left and right to stamp the full line of greetings. This ensures the stamping remains straight.

Once all the stamping is finished it's time to score the card fold line - and voilà, a Back-to-Back card!

My second card features my most recent favorite which is actually two sets that cleverly work together; Rose Blossom and Warm Hugs. The fillers for the cotton flower leaves are included in the Warm Hugs set but the branch itself is found on the Rose Blossom set.

I wanted to make a monochromatic design inspired by toile de Jouy which are French prints, mostly on fabrics and usually monochromatic in blue, black, green or red. I decided to make my design blue but it would be stunning in any monochrome combo.
The flowers and leaves have three or four layers that I stamped using the Lapis Lazuli Crisp Ink set; Azurite, Ultramarine, Eastern Sky and Iceberg. I incorporated the sentiment and my signature (a freebie from Altenew several years ago - thank you!) into the design.

My final card is also Back-to-Back and features the color block box and leaf fillers from Warm Hugs and the branch from Rose Blossom.
Another feature of this card is that you can use either side as the front - the stamping is symmetrical. This is easily achieved using a stamp positioning tool like the MISTI. Stamp one side, then flip the card and stamp the same thing on the other side.

If you follow me you know that I often do not put sentiments on my cards - I like cards that have an image or a design and can be used for any occasion. So no sentiment on this one.
Ink colors: Limeade as the background, Amethyst and Espresso as the fillers.

Flip it over to use the purple side as the front.
Ink colors: Amethyst as the background, Limeade and Lime as fillers.

  13. These are all just wonderful. I especially like the animals, but the flowers are great, too. I read your blog, but couldn't see how you kept the background colors from showing through the flowers......They look wonderful, nevertheless.

  14. Two things: First, I agree that Baby Zoo should have a part 2. I would love a flamingo and a monkey myself. Second how cute is it that your name on the back of your Rose Blossom card looks like credits rolling at the end of a movie? This was fun. I enjoyed seeing these cards.
